For the third year in a row, NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation) is a proud  sponsor of the 21st Thurgood Marshall Junior Mock Trial Competition, being held at the Bronx County Courthouse in Bronx, NY.  Nearly 1,000 students from The Bronx, New York, Kings, Queens and Westchester Counties participate in the 6-week competition which began on May 3, 2018 and concludes on June 14, 2018

The purpose of the Program is to provide middle school students with a positive introduction to the judicial system and expose them to role models and careers in the law. Attorneys volunteer their time weekly over a period of four months to coach seventh and eighth graders and prepare them for roles as prosecutors, defense attorneys, witnesses and jurors. During the competitions, actual judges preside over the mock trials, and court officers and stenographers staff the courtrooms.

During the closing ceremony, each student is presented with a certificate and donated prizes.  The teams are awarded prizes based upon where they placed in the competitions and winning teams receive a plaque and traveling trophy to display at their school.  Additionally, the Kenneth Kase Memorial Scholarship is awarded to the seventh grade Best Advocate and eighth grade Best Advocate upon enrollment in college.
