New York, NY (April 8, 2021) – NAM  (National Arbitration and Mediation), one of the nation's leading providers of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services, is pleased to announce that NAM neutral, Hon. John G. Ingram (Ret.) has been invited to present a CLE webinar to myLawCLE entitled, Maritime Law 101 and Introduction to Personal Injury and Medical Malpractice on the High Seas. This live streaming presentation is opened to the public and will be held on Friday, April 30th beginning at 2 p.m. ET.

The general maritime law of the United States traces its historic roots to legal principles that predate the founding of the country. So critical was this area of the law to a fledgling nation that the founding fathers agreed that federal courts, not state courts, would exercise admiralty jurisdiction and specifically incorporated same into Article III of the Constitution. Despite the agreement on its national importance and hundreds of years of jurisprudence, questions involving maritime law and admiralty jurisdiction are still evolving. This course will address common principles of maritime law including admiralty jurisdiction; what constitutes a maritime claim; what is a vessel; and what are the navigable waters of the United States.

Judge Ingram, also known as “Captain Ingram,” will present a program aimed at guiding attendees in navigating the waters of maritime laws relating to personal injury and medical malpractice.

Additional key topics include:

  • Seafarers rights and remedies
  • Jones Act
  • Longshore and harbor workers' rights and remedies
  • Passengers rights and remedies
  • Passenger contract/venue and time to sue
  • Medical Malpractice – passenger and crew
