New York, NY (October 28, 2020) – NAM General Counsel, Jacqueline Silvey, Esq., was recently interviewed by The Recorder in an article entitled, Emerging Opportunity: ADR Organizations Create New IT Roles for Virtual. The discussion addresses how virtual hearings have increased dramatically since he Covid-19 pandemic and the immediate need for additional IT personnel became necessary. She was joined in the discussion by representatives of JAMS and ADR Services Inc.
In the article, Ms. Silvey addresses how NAM was an early adopter of Virtual ADR and fully prepared to conduct arbitrations and mediations remotely. She stated, “We think that having offered video conferencing for so many years, and being very proficient in the technology prior to the pandemic, contributed to the initial upswing in cases when the shelter-in-place orders were issued.”
The company saw a massive uptick in cases and case processing in March, saw a brief decline through the summer and has since been receiving submissions at a rate in excess of 2019 levels. Investing in technology is a priority for the company, with NAM roughly doubling its IT staff to assist in conducting hybrid proceedings, where where some parties. appear in person and others tune in remotely. “This hybrid way of moving forward with the hearings is probably going to be something that stays with us,” she stated.
NAM now offers four Virtual ADR platform options – a specially configured HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform, Cisco by Webex, Bluegeans and Skype.
