Defending the Front Line: Your Role in Domestic and International Arbitrations

On the front line of resolving commercial disputes, in-house counsel are critical in all aspects of managing domestic and international arbitrations: from agreeing to arbitration as a potentially optimal method for dispute resolution, to a hearing and/or settlement. With that responsibility comes accountability to the company, management, board of directors, and other stakeholders for the successful conduct of the arbitration. This program will discuss decisions that need to be made before and during each stage of an arbitration. Canadian and US panelists will address: risk analysis and selection of arbitration as a dispute resolution mechanism, internal organization and preparation, outside counsel selection, arbitrator selection, arbitration strategy and process, as well as other key considerations. Participants will leave with tips for faster and more effective arbitrations.
