NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation) is pleased to announce that Honorable John P. DiBlasi and Richard P. Byrne, Esq. have been invited to present a 2-hour CLE seminar to the Queens County Bar Association (QCBA). The CLE program entitled The Art of Arbitration: Best Practices and Tips from The Arbitrators, will focus on the benefits of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and the fundamentals for the successful arbitration of civil and commercial disputes. The program will be held at the QCBA, 90-35 148th Street, Jamaica, NY on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Given the cost in terms of time, expense and the uncertainty of litigating in the court system, arbitration is a cost-effective and time efficient alternative to the unpredictability of litigation. Arbitration affords the parties many advantages including confidentiality and privacy, limited discovery, input into the selection of the arbitrator and finality by virtue of limited right to appeal. Judge DiBlasi and Mr. Byrne will address a broad array of arbitration related topics that include: the arbitration clause; arbitration rules and procedures; the single arbitrator versus the tri-panel; discovery; preparing for the arbitration; pre- and post-hearing submissions and closing arguments.

Roy Israel, President and CEO of NAM stated: “I am always proud when NAM's panel members are selected to speak about the extraordinary benefits of Alternative Dispute Resolution. Our diverse panel of neutral judges have a unique perspective having handled a wide range of materials and cases in ADR, from both the bench and in private practice. Judge DiBlasi and Mr. Byrne are supremely qualified to teach best practices and tips on arbitration, and I'm sure their input will be very well received by those in attendance. We look forward to a very informative program and thank the Queens County Bar Association for the invitation to participate.”

Judge DiBlasi is the former presiding Justice of the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Westchester County. For the fourth consecutive year, he was voted the #1 Mediator in the United States in the 2017 National Law Journal Annual Reader Rankings Survey and for the second year in a row, he was named a National Law Journal 2017 Alternative Dispute Resolution Champion, as part of a select group of only 37 nationwide. Judge DiBlasi has arbitrated and mediated over 3,000 cases and his ADR practice centers on resolving Commercial, International, Finance, Employment, Entertainment, Land Use, and Professional Malpractice matters.

For the third consecutive year, Richard P. Byrne, Esq. was voted one of the Top 3 Mediators in the country by the 2017 National Law Journal Annual Reader Rankings Survey, and for the second year in a row he was named a National Law Journal 2017 Alternative Dispute Resolution Champion, as part of a select group of only 37 nationwide.
