New York, NY (April 10, 2019) – NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation) is proud to announce that the Honorable John P. DiBlasi and the Honorable Peter B. Skelos have been invited to speak at the 2019 American Bar Association (ABA) 21st Annual Section of Dispute Resolution Spring Conference. The event will take place from April 10 -13 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Once again, NAM is honored to participate as a Diamond-Level Sponsor for the second year in a row.

More than 500 dispute resolution professionals, attorneys and in-house counsel from around the world are expected to attend the 4-day global event. The conference will offer unsurpassed networking opportunities, as well as advanced educational seminars presented by key thought leaders in the dispute resolution field. The agenda will include programs for mediator and arbitrators, legal educators, attorneys and In-House Counsel.

As part of the conference program, Justices DiBlasi and Skelos will lead a continuing legal education (CLE) panel discussion entitled, In Mediation, You Gotta have (Good) Faith!  As a mediator, trust is a critical element in any successful negotiation. However, in an adversarial negotiation trust is a relative concept to the parties to the mediation. You may never come to fully trust your adversary, but that doesn't mean parties can't mutually engage in a good faith negotiation process—a simple and honest approach that is often derailed by looking to gain an advantage. Many good faith negotiations are sabotaged by parties using a variety of bad faith negotiation tactics, many of which are repeated all too often and can ultimately prevent a settlement. By shining a light on the parties to the mediation, this CLE program will shed light on what those tactics are and what can be done to ameliorate the situation. The CLE will be held on Friday, April 12th from 10:15 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
