... Read More >The Honorable Edward N. Cahn has spent most of his legal career as a member of the judiciary. With more than 30 years of experience on the bench, he began his service as a jurist in 1975 where he was appointed United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by President Gerald Ford, after which he was elevated to Chief United States District Judge from 1993 to 1998. Throughout his legal career, he has successfully overseen a wide variety of case types that include antitrust, commercial, shareholder and securities litigation, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and intellectual property matters.
Judge Cahn has mediated more than 1,500 controversies with a reported success rate in excess of 90 percent. He is known as hard-working and detail-oriented jurist whose even-handed demeanor makes him highly effective in facilitating the resolution of complex matters. He is particularly adept at winning the confidence of counsel and clients alike. Since his retirement, he joined the law firm of Blank Rome as Of Counsel where he concentrates his practice in complex litigation.
An avid proponent of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), Judge Cahn is known for his patient, fair and unbiased manner when assisting parties with the settlement of their cases. These qualities make him extremely well suited to his role in the private ADR forum. He has the natural settlement skills and extensive legal experience required to assist parties in reaching resolutions in mediation and to render prompt and well-reasoned decisions.
Judge Cahn is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Lehigh County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. Previously, Judge Cahn was a Tresolini Lecturer in law at Lehigh University, an adjunct professor of law at Rutgers-Camden Law School and received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Lehigh University in 2002.
