New York, NY (April 17, 2020) – NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation), one of the nation's leading providers of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), is proud to announce that the Honorable Ira B. Warshawsky's article, Stop the World (Please!), I Want to Get Off!, was recently published in Insurance Advocate, a prominent online insurance publication that covers people and issues affecting the insurance industry.
The article's title references the broadway show of the same name where the lead character would call out “Stop the World” whenever something unsatisfactory would happen to him.
Judge Warshawsky writes that over the past month, there have been numerous occasions where many of us wanted to “stop the world” as COVID-19 has brought United States to a virtual standstill. He states “markets plunged, the world of sports was put on hold and our country struggled to come to terms with a combination of threats (health, social and economic) that most of us have never witnessed in our lifetimes.”
In the article, Judge Warshawsky aptly points out that the court system is on hold and leadership has pushed the pause button, but legal matters must still move forward. And just because you cannot get a jury trial, it does not mean that you cannot resolve a case through mediation or arbitration. In fact, he informs that 90% of all cases within the civil system settle before trial – so why delay when Virtual Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is at your doorstep.
What should you look for to accomplish either a virtual mediation or arbitration? ADR and technical expertise for one. Judge Warshawsky lists additional questions to ask and states, “Remember the importance of your choice. This could be a substantial savings to your client in travel costs. And perhaps more important, the ADR vendor you select should be able to provide you and your client with the confidence of a physically safe environment. Mediation puts you in control of your case and not the court system, which should make for a more efficient and cost-effective process.”
