JUDGES JOHN INGRAM AND PETER SKELOS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN A LIVE WEBINAR ON HOW TO USE ADR TO FAST-TRACK SURROGATE'S COURT LITIGATION

John G. Ingram (Ret.) and Hon. Peter B. Skelos, J.S.C. (Ret.) have been invited by the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers to present a live streaming continuing legal education (CLE) seminar, Using ADR to Fast-Track Surrogate's Court Litigation.
This 1-hour free program is open to the public and will be held on Wednesday, August 12th at 1:00 p.m. ET. Joining Judges Skelos and Ingram on the panel will be Lesli P. Hiller, Esq., Court Attorney Referee at Nassau County Surrogate's Court, and Stephanie M Alberts, a partner at Forchelli Deegan Terrana LLP, Tax, Trusts & Estates practice group.
Contested matters in the Surrogate's Courts of New York are part of the trend of increasing litigation in our society. The weight of that trend is all the more heavier following the closure of the courthouses and the limit placed on the reopened courthouses following the Covid-19 pandemic. This program will focus on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as cost effective, time efficient, more flexible and less volatile means of resolving contested estate matters.

MEET NAM'S PRESENTERS
The Honorable John G. Ingram (Ret.) is a member of NAM'S (National Arbitration and Mediation) panel of neutrals and is available to arbitrate and mediate surrogate and maritime matters throughout the United States. In addition to being considered one of the nation's foremost authorities in admiralty law, he also served as Acting Surrogate in Kings and Richmond counties where he presided over more than a thousand cases involving contested will and estate claims, status of beneficiaries and guardianship/adoption disputes. Judge Ingram also has a broad range of knowledge in a wide variety of maritime matters that includes cargo damage, charter party disputes, collision litigation, towing, cruise ship passenger claims, groundings, Jones Act/unseaworthiness, and longshore harbor workers' personal injury claims.
Honorable Peter B. Skelos' career includes 11 years spent as an Associate Justice of the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court, Second Judicial Department where he served until his retirement in 2015. Throughout his many years on the bench, he was known for having a keen legal intellect with compassion for those who appeared before him and is rated “Highly Qualified” by the New York State Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission. Judge Skelos' experience both on the bench and in private practice, gives him a broad range of knowledge in numerous areas of the law including construction litigation, professional liability and insurance coverage disputes. In 2019, for the fourth year in a row, Judge Skelos was voted a Top Ten Neutral in the New York Law Journal Best Of Survey and in 2018, for the second straight year, he was named a National Law Journal Alternative Dispute Resolution Champion, as part of a select group of only 46 nationwide.
