New York, NY (April 20, 2020) – NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation), one of the nation's leading providers of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), is proud to announce that the Honorable John P. DiBlasi, J.S.C. (Ret.) has been invited to participate in a CLE webinar conducted by the New York County Lawyers Association's (NYCLA) Civil Practice Institute as part of a two-day Bridge the Gap for Litigators event. Judge DiBlasi's will join a panel discussion entitled Conference and Settlement and Mediation in Commercial and Personal Injury Cases, to be held on Friday, April 24th from 12:30 – 2:20 p.m.

Judge DiBlasi will provide participants with an introduction to mediation and virtual alternative dispute resolution (ADR), its benefits, cybersecurity and enhanced security protocols and much more.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • mediation's purpose ADR process as distinguished from arbitration;
  • the agreement to mediate;
  • the role of the mediator;
  • selecting the mediator;
  • when to mediate;
  • mediation submissions;
  • ethical issues in both face to face and virtual mediations;
  • good faith negotiations;
  • submissions; joint and breakout sessions;
  • specific issues that arise in virtual ADR;
  • an introduction to the technology;
  • cyber-security involving both user hygiene and the security protocols of the ADR provider;
  • and the benefits of virtual ADR.  

Counsel will learn basic concepts that will lead to a productive mediation process;  how to protect themselves on-line; what to look for with respect to security measures in place by the ADR provider; specific issues that arise during on-line arbitrations and mediations; an overview of the technology and choice of platform; and ethical guidelines for attorneys who are engaging in virtual ADR. 

Hon. John P. DiBlasi is the former presiding Justice of the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. During his illustrious career, he has arbitrated and mediated over 3,000 cases with an ADR practice that centers on resolving Commercial, International, Finance, Employment, Entertainment, Land Use, and Professional Malpractice matters. In 2020, Judge DiBlasi was ranked a Top Three Mediator in the United States by The National Law Journal Annual Best of Survey for the seventh straight year (#1, 4 years in a row) and was voted a Top Ten Mediator in The New York Law Journal Annual Best of Survey for the tenth consecutive year.  He was also voted the #1 Mediator in the country by the 2019 Corporate Counsel Best of Survey for the second year in a row and for the third straight year, was named a National Law Journal Alternative Dispute Resolution Champion, as part of a select group of only 46 nationwide.  Judge DiBlasi has consistently been designated a Super Lawyer and holds an AV Preeminent Peer Rating from Martindale-Hubbell in both Alternative Dispute Resolution and Litigation – a distinction given only to those who possess the highest ethical standards and professional ability.
