Hon. Elizabeth Bonina was recently quoted in an article that appeared in the publication of Legal Issues in Collegiate Athletics (LICA). The article entitled “A Better Referee: The Need for Independent Neutral Adjudication Process as the Solution to the Challenges in Handling Sexual Violence Claims in College Athletics” written by Robert A. Boland, Esq., supports the premise that there should be independent, neutral adjudication of Title IX cases on college campuses throughout the United States.
Mr. Boland quotes Judge Bonina from an article she recently wrote for the New York Law Journal entitled “Title IX Complaints – Resolving Them With ADR” in which Hon. Bonina says “the gravamen of any litigation is the integrity of the hearing process itself.” She further states, “an independent process gives the educational institution's judicial system enhanced credibility at a time when these matters are coming under increased scrutiny, and thus reduce unnecessary and costly litigation.”
Hon. Bonina is a former Justice of the Supreme Court, Kings County. She has lectured frequently on Title IX issues and has mediated a myriad of cases including employment, professional malpractice, premises liability, labor law, sports and entertainment, products liability and personal injury. For the fourth consecutive year, Judge Bonina was named a “Best Individual Arbitrator” in New York State by the 2016 New York Law Journal Reader Rankings Survey, with three of those years being voted #1. She was also has been ranked one of the Top Ten Mediators in the state for the past seven years by that same survey.
Judge Bonina is available to arbitrate and mediate cases throughout the New York Metro area.
