HON. PETER B. SKELOS TO PRESENT CLE SEMINAR TO THE LONG ISLAND CHAPTER OF THE LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS ASSOCIATION (LERA)

NAM panel member, Honorable Peter B. Skelos, will present a CLE seminar entitled Reasonable Accommodation in the Workplace Under the ADA: Recent Trends and Practical Tips When Dealing With Restrictive Covenants and Trade Secrets, to the Long Island Chapter of LERA (Labor and Employment Relations Association). The 60-minute seminar will be held at the Bonwit Inn, 1 Vanderbilt Motor Pkwy, Commack, NY 11725 on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 6:30 p.m.
The CLE presentation will address cutting edge issues relating to reasonable accommodations in the workplace under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Topics to be discussed include: the criteria an employer should consider in determining whether a leave of absence or telecommuting are reasonable accommodations for an employee with a disability; restrictive covenants and the “legitimate interests” of employers that may be protected by them; trade secrets under New York law; current status of New York State legislation relating to non-compete agreements; and the use of mediation and arbitration to resolve these types of claims and best practice tips for advocates handling them.
Hon. Peter Skelos was named a National Law Journal 2017 Alternative Dispute Resolution Champion, as part of a select group of only 37 nationwide. He was also voted a Top Ten Mediator by the 2016 New York Law Journal Annual Reader Rankings Survey. Judge Skelos is a former Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, 2nd Department. He is well-versed in the law and is a highly regarded mediator and arbitrator for NAM. Hon.
