NAM to Present the Latest Developments and Best Practices in Alternative Dispute Resolution for Corporate Counsel

New York, NY (June 10, 2019) – NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation), one of the nation's leading providers of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services, and The Association of Corporate Counsel New York City Chapter (ACC-NYC) is pleased to present the plenary session of what is sure to be a stimulating full-day In-House Counsel Tool Kit CLE program on Thursday, June 13th, at Convene, 101 Park Avenue in New York, NY.

NAM's session entitled, Know Before You Go: The Latest Developments and Best Practices in Alternative Dispute Resolution for Corporate Counsel, will feature three of NAM's highly regarded neutrals, Rhonda L. Epstein, Esq., Hon. Peter B. Skelos, and James J. Wrynn, Esq. The program will cover hot button issues in commercial mediation and arbitration with a focus on recent Supreme Court decisions, as well as ADR-related developments in employment and insurance disputes. Further, it will address best practices designed to help reduce and resolve business disputes and help in-house legal professionals understand their role in the dispute resolution process in an effort to reduce the uncertainty and expense often associated with litigation.

Ms. Epstein, Judge Skelos and Mr. Wrynn will be joined by Guido Gabriele, General Counsel for Grassi & Co., who will moderate the seminar. The program will be presented from 9:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.

Rhonda L. Epstein, Esq. is a seasoned litigator who has dedicated her career to the practice of labor and employment law. With more than 35 years of wide-ranging experience in civil litigation, she has handled cases arising under The American with Disabilities Act, Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Section 1981, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Fair Housing Act, and the Family Medical Leave Act, as well as the New York State Executive Law, and the New York City Administrative Code. Ms. Epstein served as a Supervising Attorney for a prominent New York law firm and as In-House Counsel for the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies. She is a longtime proponent of Alternative Dispute Resolution, and has successfully counseled, supervised, and mediated employment law cases related to claims of age, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, religion, and pregnancy discrimination. She has been awarded an AV Preeminent Peer Rating by Martindale-Hubbell.

Hon. Peter B. Skelos is a former Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, 2nd Department. He is well-versed in the law and is a well respected mediator and arbitrator for NAM. Judge Skelos has arbitrated and mediated cases that include construction, commercial, professional liability, insurance coverage, matrimonial, medical malpractice and personal injury matters. As a former appellate judge, he has the ability to fairly and expertly identify and resolve disputed questions of law. In 2018, for the third year in a row, Judge Skelos was voted a Top Ten Mediator by The New York Law Journal Annual Reader Rankings Survey and for the second straight year was named a National Law Journal Alternative Dispute Resolution Champion, as part of a select group of only 46 nationwide (2018, 2017).

James J. Wrynn, Esq. brings more than 30 years of professional experience as an attorney, regulator, executive and strategic advisor in the domestic and global insurance and regulatory sectors. He has garnered a reputation as a premier authority on domestic and global insurance regulation and related strategic and risk management matters. Prior to joining NAM, Mr. Wrynn served as the 40th and last Superintendent of Insurance in the State of New York. Having held senior positions with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), Mr. Wrynn is well-versed in state, national and international regulations and policies governing the insurance industry. His experience also includes work with insurers, reinsurers, private equity/hedge funds, banks/investment banks, captives, agents, brokers, third party administrators, investors, regulators, corporations and law firms to address complex strategic and tactical issues of local, regional, national and international importance. He is a longtime advocate of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and draws upon his many years of experience when mediating and arbitrating in the private ADR Forum.

All three neutrals are available to arbitrate and mediate cases throughout the United States.
