NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation) is proud to announce that Susan Hernandez, Esq. and Hon. Peter B. Skelos have been invited by the Nassau County Women's Bar Association (NCWBA) to present a 1-hour CLE presentation entitled Gender Diversity in Arbitration and Mediation Selection: If Not Now, When? Achieving Equality for Women Attorneys in the Courtroom and in ADR. The program's title, taken from a July 2017 report prepared by the Commercial & Federal Litigation Section of the New York State Bar was compiled by the section's Task Force on Women's Initiatives. The CLE program will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the law offices of Forchelli, Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo & Terrana, LLP, 333 Earle Ovington Blvd., Suite 1010, Uniondale, NY 11553 at 6:30 p.m.

Ms. Hernandez and Judge Skelos will address why women attorneys remain considerably underrepresented both in the courtroom and as arbitrators and mediators in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). They will also provide commentary on the survey's findings about the continued disparity and gender imbalance both in the public and private sectors and discuss ways to move the needle forward to establish procedures and policies to increase the appointment of women and minorities as neutrals in complex commercial and international matters.

Roy Israel, President and CEO of NAM stated, “Gender diversity in ADR is an incredibly important issue in today's legal landscape and I am very pleased that the Nassau County Women's Bar Association has invited Ms. Hernandez and Judge Skelos to speak. And while the New York State Bar study does report a dearth of women in ADR, NAM prides itself on its diversity in the workplace. Presenting continuing legal education programs such as these to the legal community is a significant step in advancing the discussion about gender equality in both the courtroom and in ADR.”
