March 13 2006,

Roy Israel, the President and CEO of NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation), and Hon. Harry Seidell, a former Justice of the Supreme Court (Suffolk), were selected by the Suffolk County Bar Association to speak at a Committee meeting on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) on March 13th.

The joint meeting attracted members of both the Insurance & Negligence Defense Counsel Committee and Plaintiff's Counsel Committee. The discussion covered such areas as ADR trends within the state of New York and Suffolk County, factors that should be considered in determining appropriate cases for dispute resolution and selecting the most effective Hearing Officer for each matter. Other topics included the impact of threshold issues on ADR, administrative considerations that ADR clients should take advantage of to ensure a positive process and how to properly prepare and present a case for arbitration.

Justice Harry Seidell (Ret.), a Hearing Officer for NAM, was also a keynote speaker. Hon. Seidell has resolved hundreds of complex legal disputes both on the bench and currently as an exclusive member of NAM's panel. Justice Seidell is an active proponent of using ADR to help ease overburdened court systems from backlogged cases.

The meeting took place at Suffolk Bar Association headquarters in Hauppauge. It is one of a series of Committee initiatives aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of ADR.
