He is well known by the majority of the plaintiff firms in the NY Metro area and most significantly, is well respected by them for his ability to fairly evaluate and settle cases.
Mr. Kaplan has held various roles within the Progressive Insurance Company House Counsel organization over the years. They include founding New York attorney of record, regional managing attorney overseeing New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island House Counsel offices, national House Counsel training/risk manager and large loss managing attorney for downstate high risk cases. He is currently the senior trial attorney in downstate New York responsible for litigating high exposure cases. Mr. Kaplan has lectured nationally on trial and negotiations skills. As a litigator, he has handled trials in every court located in the NY Metro area and Westchester, Orange, Rockland, Dutchess and Putnam Counties.
Howard Kaplan has garnered a reputation amongst his peers – both defense and plaintiff attorneys – for his fair valuation of claims and in depth medical knowledge. He has participated in hundreds of arbitrations and mediations over the years, and is an avid supporter of the ADR process which he views as an effective method of quickly and cost effectively moving cases to resolution. As a mediator/arbitrator, he has a keen ability to bring parties together based on his years of experience as a trial attorney and negotiator.
In 2019, for the fifth year in a row, Mr. Kaplan was voted a Top Ten Arbitrator in New York State by the New York Law Journal Best Of Survey. He is available to arbitrate or mediate cases throughout the New York Metro area.
